Many thanks to Cambridge Independent for printing our opinion piece alongside their article on Cambridgeshire County Council's decision to reverse its ban on herbicides on its highways. Their initial decision in March 2023 to go herbicide-free was made without any prior trials or public consultation. By contrast, Cambridge City Council's Herbicide Reduction Plan which was rolled out following extensive trials and training. City's commitment to improve vegetation management on the highway, pavements and verges through the planned purchase of new equipment and communication with the public is welcomed.
