Pesticide-Free Cambridge

Pesticides and health

Updated: Nov 5, 2022

Although much of the pesticide-free towns movement focuses on plant-protection chemicals, urban pesticides are found in many more contexts than gardens and green spaces. Many peoples' houses and yards, businesses, the schools our kids attend, are regularly treated with insecticides whose toxicity far exceeds that of the much discussed glyphosate-based herbicides. At this time of year of particular concern are insecticidal dusting powders used to treat ants. Research carried out by the HBM4EU project endorses the view that #pesticides are affecting our health in multiple insiduous ways. We need to increase awareness, call for stricter regulations, better education of physicians and facilitated access to screenings of patients. #EnvironmentalMedicine Infographic 5/8.
